Semi Automatic Glass Drilling Machine

Double-Side Drilling for Cleaner Hole Edges

When a drill passes completely through glass from one side, the exit surface is more vulnerable to breakout. A double-head configuration approaches the hole from opposite sides.

Typical Process:
Glass Positioning → Lower/Upper Alignment → Controlled Drilling → Opposing-Side Completion → Finished Through-Hole

This configuration is especially useful where both sides of the hole must appear clean—such as frameless glass doors, hardware holes, partitions, and architectural glass. Our current automatic two-head machine uses opposing upper and lower drilling spindles, designed specifically for flat glass processing.

What Is Inside a SKY Glass Drilling Machine?

A machine's performance depends on the combination of its mechanical, electrical and motion-control systems.Depending on the model, SKY Glass equipment uses industrial components such as:

Siemens PLC: For industrial control and machine logic.

Schneider Electrical Components: For electrical control and switching systems.

NSK Bearings: For reliable mechanical motion.

HIWIN Linear Guides: Used on the CNC glass drilling configuration listed by SKY Glass.

Airtac Pneumatic Components: Used for pneumatic control in applicable machine configurations.

How a Glass Drilling Machine Fits Into Your Production Process

A drilling machine rarely operates as an isolated piece of equipment. For most glass processors, drilling forms part of a larger workflow:

01/

Glass Cutting

Glass is cut to the required dimensions.

02/

Edge Processing

Edges can be ground or finished according to the final product requirement.

03/

Hole Drilling

Hardware holes, mounting holes or other specified openings are processed.

04/

Washing

Glass is cleaned to remove processing residue.

05/

Tempering / Laminating

Where required, the processed glass continues to downstream treatment.

06/

Final Assembly

Finished glass is prepared for hardware installation or final product assembly.

Drilling should normally be planned before tempering, because drilling tempered glass is not a normal downstream drilling operation.

Built Around Your Production Requirements – Standard Machine or Customized Configuration?

Not every glass factory has the same production requirements. We accept customized specifications, including jumbo-size requirements.

Customization Can Focus On:

  • Working Size:Adapt the working area to your maximum glass sheet dimensions.
  • Processing Direction:Configure machine layout per your factory's material flow.
  • Conveyor Configuration:Extend infeed/outfeed tables for larger sheets or line integration.
  • Positioning System:Select positioning assistance per hole layout complexity and repeatability.
  • Spindle Configuration:Choose drilling configuration for your hole range and volume.
  • Cooling System:Configure cooling and water management per your processing environment.
  • Electrical Standard:Adapt to destination market and factory requirements.

What Buyers Should Evaluate Before Purchasing

Hole Quality: Consistent geometry with minimal chipping, breakout, and edge damage.

Positioning Accuracy: For multi-hole glass, center-to-center accuracy matters more than single-hole drilling.

Glass Thickness Range: Ensure the machine handles your actual thickness range—not just the catalog maximum.

Hole Diameter Range: Required diameters determine spindle and tooling configuration.

Operator Workload: Automation level affects positioning time, manual operations, and operator dependency.

Machine Footprint

Must fit your layout with space for loading, unloading, glass movement, and water management.

Maintenance & Spare Parts

Confirm availability of drill bits, seals, cooling parts, and other wear items.

Integration

If part of a line, confirm conveyor height, processing direction, and transfer method.

Manufacturing & Quality Verification

Stress-Relieved Steel Frame:The heavy-duty structure absorbs rotational harmonics, ensuring drilling accuracy at high-speed feed—rigidity is the foundation of hole concentricity.

Dual-Spindle Synchronization:Upper and lower spindle coaxial alignment is verified before dispatch; weekly dial-indicator checks are standard to prevent edge chipping.

Component Integration:Siemens PLC, Schneider Electric, and NSK bearings provide a stable control loop through 24/7 cycles with global serviceability.

72-Hour Fatigue Test:Each unit runs under simulated real production loads to verify mechanical alignment and electrical stability before delivery.

Sample-Hole Inspection:Drilled samples are inspected on both faces for chip, wall finish, and diameter tolerance—the sample ships with acceptance criteria, not a speed number.

In-House Machine Shop:We operate 3 CNC machining centers, 4 grinding machines, 5 CNC lathes, 10 line-cutting machines, and laser cutting—table and custom parts controlled in one facility.

Installation, Commissioning & Training

Pre-Sales Engineering:Application consultation, machine selection, factory-layout discussion, and processing requirement analysis.

Installation:Overseas engineers provide installation and commissioning support for international projects.

Trial Production:The machine is verified under actual operating conditions to confirm key production parameters.

Operator Training:Training covers basic machine operation, adjustment, and routine maintenance.

Remote Technical Support:Remote troubleshooting and video-based assistance are available.

FAQ

Q:Can the machine drill different hole diameters?

A:Yes. The available drilling diameter depends on the machine model, spindle configuration and selected diamond drill bits. For example, the current automatic two-head model lists drilling ranges from Ø4 mm upward, while the exact usable range depends on the configuration.

Q:What glass thickness can your machines process?

A:Different models cover different ranges. The current CNC glass drilling machine is specified for 3–25 mm glass, while the listed semi-automatic model is specified for 4–12 mm. Final capability should be confirmed according to the selected machine and tooling.

Q:Can the machine process large architectural glass?

A:Yes. SKY Glass offers configurations for larger glass sheets and accepts customized or jumbo-size requirements. The suitable working dimensions should be determined from your maximum glass size and factory layout.

Q:Can the drilling machine be integrated into an existing production line?

A:Yes. Integration can be considered for conveyor height, processing direction, material transfer and upstream/downstream equipment. These requirements should be confirmed during the project-design stage.

Q:What spare parts should we purchase with the machine?

A:We recommend preparing critical wear parts such as diamond drill bits, seals and other machine-specific components. SKY Glass can provide a recommended spare-parts list based on the selected machine.

Q:How long does it take to manufacture a glass drilling machine?

A:The production cycle for standard products is approximately 15 to 30 days, while for customized projects it is 30 to 45 days. However, the final delivery time needs to be confirmed in the quotation based on the selected model and configuration.

Q:What payment methods do you accept?

A:For international equipment orders, T/T bank transfer can be used as a standard payment method. The exact payment schedule and any alternative payment method should be confirmed in the commercial quotation before order confirmation.

Q:What is the warranty period?

A:Currently, we offer a 12-month warranty period. The specific warranty coverage for each machine model should be confirmed in the sales contract.

Q:Can I inspect the machine before shipment?

A:Yes. For overseas projects, factory inspection can be arranged, including remote video inspection where applicable. Buyers can use the inspection to verify machine configuration, operation and pre-shipment testing before final shipment.

Q:Can you provide installation and operator training overseas?

A:Yes. SKY Glass provides installation, commissioning and operator-training support for international projects, together with remote technical assistance.
